Make 2015 the year you hit the ball straighter with more consistency

To all the golfers who read my newsletter, best wishes for everything in 2015, but especially for your time out on the golf course.

A lot has been written in 2014 about golf and the financial state of the industry. I read many suggestions for ways to increase the popularity of the game. I suspect many of you, right now, want to scream about the pace of play. You’re right of course, but it’s amazing how much less bothersome the pace of play is if you’re several shots better than your handicap, compared to how you feel if you’re several shots over handicap.

The experience of your trip to the golf club is measurably improved if you play golf to, or above, your expectations. Spending more time on the fairways hitting shots at targets is a lot more enjoyable than searching for your golf ball in the rough and then having to hack it out. While the marketers scream about distance, I’d like to recommend a plan to make 2015 the year you hit the ball straighter with a little more consistency. Do that and you’ll have a great year.

• Book your spot by winning the A, B or C division, depending on your handicap, of the Monthly Medal. You will then play in the final shootout on Saturday, 12 December 2015.
• Only the winner of each division qualifies. The qualifying spot will go to 2nd place if the monthly winner already qualified.
• 11 Rounds will be played. There will be no Monthly Medal in March due to Club Champs, therefore the winners of the three divisions in Club Champs will qualify for the 12th spot in the shoot-out.
• If you qualify as a A-Division player you will play in the A-Division from the handicap you originally qualified with in the finals.
• There is no entry fee for this competition.

• play a ball from where your last shot was played, or
• drop a ball any distance behind the point where the ball lay keeping a straight line between the hole, the point where the ball lay and the spot on which the ball is dropped, or
• drop a ball within two club-lengths of where the ball lies not nearer the hole.
