Our very own Monique Smit won the Tshwane Open last week beating Ashley Simon in the first playoff hole. This is the third win on the Ladies Sunshine for Monique and we wish her the best of luck at Royal Cape next week. She is gunning for the Investec Cup at Milvale! We all know how proud Willie and Rejeanne are about Monique and the amount of effort they put in. Our first club event for the year is next Saturday with a mixed roll up and a lekker braai at the Lapa afterwards. Carl Grobler from Imperial Motors is sponsoring the event and it promised to be fun. Just a note for some of the roll up boys…just make sure you take your own golf cart home (that is if you came with one)… LOL!

| Ernie, Wally and Big Joe | | With Rickie Fowler’s new attire I ran into a picture of three of Oubaai’s legends which I want to share with everyone - Ernie, surrounded by our Oubaai copies of Rickie Fowler - Walla and Big Joe (classically sponsored by Sumo, not Puma). It’s time for the two big fellas to change to stovepipes and high tops!! | The South Cape Inter Estate League is kicking off in a few months and I am looking for committed players interested in playing on our Oubaai team. The competition is usually on the last Sunday of each month and offers you the opportunity to play seven of the best golf courses in the Southern Cape. The emphasis is on fun and networking between members from the various clubs and of course trying to beat each other on the golf course! There are still spots available for the Ladies@home Day on Friday, 4 March. Please e-mail Lehan to book your place. Please view the poster below for more information.

This is a great start to the month, and we hope more is still to come. The rain water quality far surpasses that of our irrigation. It helps green up the course and to soak the soil profile! This week on the course we are going through the tees and fairways once more with the verticutters. One can already begin to feel the difference, with some slightly firmer tees out there. We will skip this next week (15th), and verticut tees and fairways again in the week of the 22nd. We will try to cause as little disruption as possible when doing this, as we continue to ensure the best possible playing conditions. The team has been working in bunkers loosening and moving some sand around. The greenside bunkers have been completed, and a handful of fairway bunkers. We will continue to work through them so as to ensure an adequate amount of sand throughout the bunkers. We will also be looking to top up some bunkers with additional sand over the course of the next couple months. Keep it where the mowers go! There was no competition last week as it was rained out.
