Dear Homeowners, members and guests,

We are extremely excited to be hosting the 4 x 4 Men’s Team Challenge this week. The weather forecast we are expecting is fantastic with sunny weather and very little wind. With a total of 128 players from all over South Africa it is a perfect time to showcase our estate and course.

The course will be closed from Thursday to Saturday but any members who wish to have a round, please feel free to contact me for us to arrange a game at one of our neighbouring clubs at a special green fee.

I hope everyone is as psyched about the Olympics as I am. It’s been 112 years since the last golf was played in the Olympics and think it is wonderful that they have allowed us back into it. The format is still very debatable but nonetheless, we are in and it gives South Africa another chance at bringing home a gold medal.

A full field of sixty golfers will tee it up at Gil Hanse’s new Olympic Course in Rio. Representing South Africa is 14 time winner on the Sunshine Tour, Jaco van Zyl, also featured on the cover of this month’s Compleat Golfer and Brandon Stone, our 2016 SA Open Champion. The one and only, legendary Gary Player, also known as The Black Knight, is accompanying the boys on tour as their captain in Rio this week.

We wish all the South African athletes in Rio the very best. We are rooting for you all, every step of the way!

Herewith the broadcast times featured on Supersport. The men’s golf specifically will be broadcast live as follows:

Thurs, 11th: Round 1 – SS5 – 12h20-21h05

Fri, 12th: Round 2 – SS14 - 12h20-21h00

This month we urge all golfers to switch to their new handicap cards before the old cards are deactivated. We also highlight Course Rating, and the steps being taken by the SAGA to assist the Provincial Unions to get all South African courses rated according to the USGA course rating system.

Rentals
We’ve had a couple of enquiries from people who’d like to rent on the estate on a semi-permanent basis. Should you be interested in doing this on a 3-6 month basis, please send me a mail so I can pass your details on to requesting visitors.

Please note:

Please note that no one is allowed to implement any other activities on the tennis courts except to play tennis. We have been having problems with our tennis courts surfaces due to guests and homeowners using the tennis courts surfaces to play cricket or for other activities such as teambuilding exercises. This damages the courts and costs the estate money. The courts were resurfaced just before December period and we have already perceived problems with the surfaces due to the tennis courts being used for activities. Please note to make sure that your guests use proper tennis attire and shoes and use the courts ONLY for tennis purposes.

We thank you for your cooperation within this regard.

Motivational quote of the week

“To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”

“Look at life through the windshield, not the rear view mirror.”

Golf quote of the week

“The only thing a golfer needs is more daylight.”

- Ben Hogan -

“Reverse every natural instinct and do the opposite of what you are inclined to do, and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing.”

- Ben Hogan -

I know the experts worry about the Professionals overpowering golf courses, but most of us are in no danger of doing that. While most golfers are landing tee shots out in the 200-metre mark, the top Professionals are going beyond 270 metres.

If you played your second shot on Par 4’s from where the Pros hit their tee shots, then you’d be taking Wedges, #9 Irons and maybe the odd #8 Iron. The game is a lot, lot easier from there.

The manufacturers are trying to help. The Pros swing hard knowing they’re going to hit the sweet spot. That’s not easy for a golfer playing once a week or less. So in the last two years we’ve seen clubhead design improvements that increase ball speeds away from the sweet spot. You can swing harder knowing the whole clubhead is geared for distance. Not convinced? Then surprise yourself. Contact us.

Hitting long shots requires a high energy transfer from golfer to club to ball, and Smash Factor is a measure of this energy transfer.

Smash Factor (SF) is your ball speed
divided by your clubhead speed and tells
you how much energy is being transferred
from the club to the ball at impact.
For maximum distance on your Driver
shots you’re looking to get a SF as
close to 1.5 as possible.
On Iron and Wedge shots SF
will be a bit lower.

It’s our mission to make sure you’re swinging the club as well as possible. While the right equipment fitted for you is seriously important, it won’t count as much as when you’re swinging to your full potential.
Come speak to us about your game.
