We are well into the new year and going through a busy period at the club. Tee times are hard to come by and Guy and his team have their hands full to present a golf course to the best of their ability. It is pretty obvious that we are struggling a bit, that said the greens are very good, tee boxes and bunkers are in great condition.

I would also like to remind all members to make sure that you book your tee times in advance. Like I said earlier, tee times are hard to come by during member times so to avoid disappointment make sure you speak to Carmen. On Friday afternoon we have our Sundowner that promises to be a lot of fun, we have a live draw, live band and a shootout from the deck. I hope to see you all there as the Sundowner is one of my favourite events at the club.

See the video below from Swingfit on how you can improve your pitching. Titleist will also have their new SM7 wedge available for you to try.

Please make sure you keep a close eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages as we have some exciting demo days coming up. Callaway, TaylorMade and Srixon have all launched new products that we will have available for you to try out.

This week we deal with another rule that I get a lot of questions for on a weekly basis.

At times we will get a bad lie in a bunker that we can play, but what happens when you get one that is unplayable. See your options below.

Unplayable lie in a bunker:

Option 1 – Take a drop of no more than two (2) club lengths no closer to the hole, but still in the bunker, incurring a one-shot penalty

Option 2 – Replay the shot from the original position, incurring a stroke and distance penalty.

Option 3 – Go back as far as you like in the bunker and drop, keeping that spot where your ball laid between you and the hole. This incurs a one-shot penalty.

Thank you to everyone who supported us at our sale last week. I hope you all walked away with a bargain, there will be another one coming up in April.

In store now we have just received a lovely new range of adidas caps, belts, shorts and shoes. The new adicross classic shoes promises to be a big seller, it is a very casual shoe that will work well with shorts and is all about comfort. We all know that playing with golf shoes that is comfortable is a must. If you need any assistance with your equipment or need advice, please make sure you speak to us. We will be able to advise on what is best for your game, who knows a new set of grips can make a difference and not a new set of irons.

Pitch Perfect
The pitch shot is a shot usually played from around 20m to 50m from the green. How many shots do you play from that distance? More importantly, how many shots do you lose by either flying it way over the green because you hit it thin or hit it fat and only cover half the required distance?

The pitch is a shot which can make your game way more enjoyable if you get the basics right. Imagine you will have to putt 8 out of 10 times after a 30 metre shot. WOW! Would you score lower? Of course!

I am running a "Pitch Perfect Special" this week in a leadup to the event. A 45-minutes improvement session for R300 per session focusing on your technique, mindset, equipment and some basic golf rules that can help you save even more shots. Contact me to book your spot.

Last week we highlighted how, in the Launcher CBX Irons, Cleveland have brought together
metalwood innovation (distance & forgiveness) and Wedge leadership (control & precision).

If you try the Launcher CBX Irons you’ll notice the distance and forgiveness in especially the mid and longer Irons.

Face Cup Technology means that the face can
flex right to the edges. That will preserve ball
speed and launch when you strike the ball low
on the face, or towards the heel or toe.
The Irons have a lower profile as they get
longer, creating a progressively lower and
deeper CoG. The idea is to make your longer
irons as easy to launch as a Hybrid.

We think that hitting great mid and longer iron approach shots is an exhilarating feeling.
We think hitting precise shorter approaches, even from the light rough, provides real fulfillment out on the course.
We want to upgrade as many golfers’ approach shots as possible this year.
Right fitted equipment or a better swing or both.

We’re challenging all golfers who shoot in the 90’s or even above, to start a journey to better golf.
To target a score in the 80’s every time. Last week we kicked off a month of tips.
If you missed last week you can

Try taking out of your bag,
the clubs you can’t use consistently from the fairway, even if that
leaves you with just your #7,
#8 and #9 Irons and Wedges. Remove the temptation.
Now what did you score?

If your #7 Iron is the longest club that you can use consistently, then set yourself a
target to improve your #6 Iron. You’re looking to get to the level where you never badly hook or
slice your shots and, on at least 85% of the time, you’re hitting it within 10 metres of your target distance.
Don’t struggle hour after hour without any sign of improvement though. Let us help.
