Dear Member,

During our hollow tining period (3 – 12 April), we have manged to secure reciprocity rates with various clubs in the Western Cape. Please view the list below and feel free to contact these clubs to make booking arrangements.

Pearl Valley (R695 including a shared cart)
Steenberg (R500.00 & carts R300.00)
Somerset West ( R200 green fee)
Stellenbosch (R235 per player)
Erinvale (R495 including a shared cart)

Handicaps
The handicap committee has been notified that certain members are not adjusting their handicaps when playing off the forward tees in club competitions. These forward tees have an official standard rating, anyone may elect to use them provided they adjust their handicap downwards by the difference between the standard rating of the forward tees and the standard rating of the tees used for the competition. The reason for this is that the competition scores are calculated in relation to PAR.

Below is a brief explanation.

Players handicap: 10 Shoots 82 off club tees. Standard rating - 72. (Par 72) Diff = 10 – he played to his handicap. Stableford points - 36
Shoots 80 off front tees. Stand. Rating - 70.( Par 72) Diff = 10 – he played to his handicap. Stableford points – 38

In both cases he has played to his handicap yet he clearly has a points advantage off the front tees.

If the player now adjusts his handicap: SR 72 – SR 70 = 2. His adjusted handicap off the forward tees will be 10 – 2 = 8
His score of 80 off the forward tees, using his adjusted handicap for the competition, will now give him 36 stableford points.

Section 11 of the Handicap Manual gives a detailed description of the above.

Hermanus Ladies Open
The De Zalze Ladies entered 3 x 4balls for the Hermanus Ladies Open which took place earlier this week. Unfortunately they didn’t win any of the prizes, but they had a “whale of a time”! Thanks for representing the Club, girls. We are looking forward to our De Zalze Ladies Open which takes place next week: we are proud to say we are fully booked for this event and can’t wait to welcome all the colourful “birdies of a feather” at our Club. Watch this space...

Sundowner / Friday Nights Live
The ever popular Sundowner Challenge takes place on 23 March. Join us for the usual 9 holes of golf with pizzas and Ernie Els wines after your round of golf. Cleveland/Srixon is teaming up with Swingfit to present a Chipping/Pitching Clinic as from 14h30, as well as a post golf fun competition. Bookings are now open!

Stay for the FRIDAY NIGHTS LIVE with our LIVE DRAW and LIVE MUSIC: the entertainer for the evening is the well known Blair Taberer and the live draw has now rolled over to … R2000! Meet our new chef: Francois Erasmus
 
The first job I got as a chef was at age 17, working as a pizza chef in a 120 seater Italian restaurant. I moved all around the kitchen for about 3 years.

I then moved to Stellenbosch and started working at Asara Wine Farm. After this, I worked at Dornier Wine Esate for 3 years. This was when I got the opportunity to go and work as the chef at one of the top Golf Clubs in Florida USA - Addison Reserve.

I returned to SA in 2013 and started working at Erinvale Golf Club. However, the travel bug had bitten me and shortly after I found myself working for the Protea Hotel in Uganda, East Africa. 3 years later I decided it was time for the next big adventure and landed on the banks of the mighty Zambezi, running two luxury tented camps, each hosting 8 villas. This was one of the most amazing experiences ever. Here we are late for work because of the traffic, there we were late for work because there was a heard of elephant right outside the kitchen!

DHL Stormers and WP Rugby tickets
As one of our Sport Ambassadors, WP Rugby supplies us with 10 tickets to all Newlands based DHL Stormers (Vodacom Super Rugby) and WP (Absa Currie Cup) home league fixtures. These are available to our members on a first come first served basis. Please book your tickets in advance with Leone and make sure to pick these up before 16h30 on the Friday on or before the match date. Please note that the kick-off time for this week’s match against the Blues is 15h05. Let’s support our local rugby heroes!

We want to congratulate the following golfers with achieving a hole-in-one on our course since the beginning of the year:

“Rand a Round” & Swingfit Foundation
The “Rand a Round” & Swingfit Foundation is all about giving back and creating opportunities for our youth to take up this beautiful game. Swingfit presents weekly clinics at Weber Gedenk Primary & Stellenzicht Secondary School, both situated in Jamestown. The kids absolutely loves golf, in fact we had some teachers ask us to do clinics earlier as the kids can’t talk about anything else but golf leading up to the afternoon activities.
