And the 2018 Oubaai Champions are...
The Oubaai Club Championships was contested in some interesting conditions ranging from very cold to mild. The consistent factor however, was the wind. It made for some very interesting scoring and shot making to say the least. However, as the saying goes, the cream rose to the top and many congratulations to all the winners. In particular, to Caylum who defended his title with some brilliant golf in trying conditions.

A huge thanks to TurfWorx for producing an outstanding course for the weekend. Given that they only had a week to prepare (with two public holidays included in that time), I really think they pulled out all the stops!

Congratulations go to:

2018 Captains' Awards:
Well done and congratulations to all the winners of Catains' Awards. Here they are:

Sanlam Cancer Challenge: 25 April
Since its launch in 1993, the Sanlam Cancer Challenge has made great strides in creating awareness and raising funds for CANSA to conduct research, educate the public and provide support.

The challenge draws more than 40 000 participants countrywide playing in over 800 club competitions. The Sanlam Cancer Challenge at Oubaai will be played on Wednesday 25 April 2018. It’s an individual stableford competition with lots of prizes. However, the prize is the act of contributing to such a worthwhile cause.

Having attended the launch earlier in the year and seeing how much our neighbouring clubs raised from their days, I ask that we all support this very worthwhile cause. Many of us, myself included, have experienced first-hand the dreadful disease that is cancer and the devastating effect it has on families. So please grab as many friends as possible and bring them along to support this wonderful day. Be sure to book your fourball with the Oubaai Pro Shop.

Back-to-back fun at the Oubaai Clubhouse

Celebrate Freedom Day (27 April) with a Moules Frites Evening and some wonderful Franschoek wine! Please book your place with tania@oubaaigolf.co.za.

Don’t miss the Ollie Martin Pub Quiz Night on Saturday 28 April sponsored by Beefeater Gin. Food and drinks specials. Starts at 18h30. Bookings essential with tania@oubaaigolf.co.za.

Last week we discussed the improvements in Driver face technology over the last 2 years.
The manufacturers are looking to accommodate the strike patterns of
the regular golfer (shown below).

Those improvements are about more than preserving ball speed as you strike the ball towards the toe and heel,
they’re also about preserving accuracy. Finding the fairway is really important, even to the best as shown below.

Creating a higher MOI and therefore more accuracy off the tee means saving weight from specific
areas and repositioning that weight to increase the MOI. Even the hosel uses lighter materials in
the Cleveland HB Launcher to free up weight that can now be used lower and deeper
to ease launch and raise MOI.

This shows you that from 170 yards in the fairway, the very best golfers are more accurate on
average than they are from just 100 yards but in the rough. That is why MOI (resistance to twisting)
is so important in the latest Drivers.

We’d like to work with any golfer interested in playing more often.
We’re keen to make sure everyone of our golfers is in the fairway off the tee more often.
Interested?

The temptation as a parent is to measure your child’s relationship with the game by their competitive performance.
The relationship with the game, depending on your child’s age, should influence your thinking.

As a team, we can make sure your child develops a healthy relationship with the game.
From there, the pathway can take so many different directions with all sorts of different levels
of achievement. But, whatever the journey, we want them to enjoy the game and make a lot of friends.

Come and talk to us about the best way to introduce golf to your child
or how to develop their ability.
