It’s been festive few days at the Club…
With The Nite Race, Boss of the Bar and St Patrick’s Day, we’ve had a very festive atmosphere at the club over the last week.

Xolani was making Pizza’s til the cows came home at the Nite Race, while Merle and Michelle from Halp Media gave Boss of the Bar a Caribbean Twist and a whole bunch of leprechauns showed up for St Patrick’s Day!

Then yesterday Allen Daniels and Victor Ho had a Curry Cook-off on the deck. Frantic preparation led to wonderful aromas and when their 2pm plating time arrived they produced two great curries to the judges. Victor emerged as the winner by a very narrow margin.

League
A decision was taken some time ago by the board that the golfers who participate in league for the club would receive a shirt (which they paid for upfront, but which will be credited to them if they played in more than 75% of their league games). In addition, the club pay the greenfees for their matches and also credit each player with R100 per game they play. The club does not pay for drinks or snacks after the game.

Teams are more than welcome to pool the R100’s that they receive to be used for this purpose. While other clubs may buy a rounds of drinks and snacks after the round, they do not give their players the R100 credit.

League participation costs the club in excess of R 80,000.00 per year and the management of the club feel that players should be playing league for the competition and camaraderie and to represent the club, not because they want to be paid to do so.

Chris Delport’s Captains Corner…

This weekend the men’s Handicap League team played their last fixture against Copperleaf at ZCC. They started the season off slow, losing the first game, but has since been unbeaten. They lead the log going into the last fixture and a win would secure victory. However, they managed to draw 2-2 and the winners would thus be decided on whether Silverlakes managed to beat Blue Valley yesterday (unfortunately at the time of writing this result was still unknown). Well-done anyway to all the players that represented the club, ably lead by Neil Goosen, you were true ambassadors for ZCC, playing hard but in the true spirit of the game.

The Senior Scratch league similarly had their last round robin fixtures on Saturday and the team only lost one match, ending in a credible 3rd place. The play-offs will now be held betweern the top 4 teams, being Wingate, Centurion, ZCC and Akasia on 14 April at Silverlakes. The team for this will be William Skinner; Chris Delport; Neil Goosen & Floris de Klerk.

The Scratch League starts in April, and the Club Champs will be used as trials to select this team. I therefore urge players that wish to be considered, to enter the Club Champs but also to contact me on 0795109062 urgently.

I friendly reminder that the club champs that will be held on:
A Division (up to 9 handicap): Saturday 7 April and Sunday 8 April
B Division (1-17 handicap): Saturday 7 April and Saturday 14 April
C Division (19 and up): Saturday 7 April and Saturday 14 April

This event is the club’s flagship event and players are urged to participate and help make this the success it deserves. Apart from the Club Champs, the Matchplay Champs will be expanded this year to include not only the top 16 players in the A Division, but for the first time this will include the top 16 players for both the B and C Divisions.

On a less happy note, I have received a number of “concerns” regarding the state of the bunkers and the greens at ZCC. The concern is that players do not properly rake the bunkers, or in some cases do not rake it at all. I therefore appeal to all players, and specifically members, to ensure that everyone in their group attend to this, and also repair pitch marks. If anyone sees someone not doing this, please approach them with courtesy and remind them to leave the course in the condition they wish it to be. We all want to ensure that both members and visitors at ZCC have a memorable experience.

Handicap League
This weekend the Handicap League took on Copperleaf here at Zwartkop. Unfortunately the match ended in a draw – 2-all. Devon Du Toit managed a fantastic 69 but was outplayed by one of the Copperleaf “thieves” who shot 67 off a 2! Well done guys.

Unfortunately Saturday morning was rained out, but those of you who came down for the afternoon field managed to complete 18 holes and then enjoyed a great evening here at the club with great music and an even better drinks promotions.

Custom Fitting - more happy golfers!
In last week's mail I told you that after I custom fitted Danie Jacobs he managed to hole out at the 7th. I then custom fitted Ian Hesse and Brad Welsh who both not only significantly increased their distance with the driver, but also their accuracy. Would you like to better your handicap? Well then please click here and lets get you custom fitted. If you are a member of Zwartkop this is a free service which I provide.

There are many variables that impact on the backspin created at impact.

What if I told you that in many cases, fat or thin contact, or a swing-path-club-face-relationship
creating a fade or slice, can be traced to poor posture with incorrect bend and tilt at address?

Kellie Stenzel, in a Golf.com instruction video, aimed at golfers with an inclination to hit fat iron shots,
goes straight to your posture and upper body bend at setup, as a major cause of this problem.
Watch the video now with a good tip for an in-round checkup you can continually make.

Stenzel has a good tip in her video, but the question is, if you were asked to pull a Driver, and then a hybrid,
and then a #7 iron out of your bag and set up correctly each time; would you have the knowledge of the
key check points to a good setup?
Not sure?
