Then, looking at the diary, there are lots of things to look forward to in the next while, including the following:

• The SF Waterson Mixed Foursomes is this Sunday, the 22nd July. Bookings are open and please remember you must be a mixed pair to enter. As this is Foursomes, we will pair 8 players in each timeslot, making up a 4-ball. Emelia will send all players booked for this day a timesheet on Friday, advising you on your tee off time and the other players in your group.

• Greenkeeper’s Revenge is the next Festival Event and that is happening next Friday, the 27th July. Bookings are open at the office and like last year, the emphasis on this day will be fun and laughter! It promises to be a fantastic day so come along and have a ball.

• On the 28th there will be Foster Cup Qualifying in conjunction with the Keith and Ann Lloyd Trophy.

• The next Open Mixed is on the 29th July and is proudly sponsored by Courier It. The last Open Mixed was fantastic and this one will be even better. There are limited 4-balls still available (good news travels fast) and prize-giving and dinner will be upstairs after golf.

• Just a reminder to the Sanlam Cancer Challenge winners who qualified for the finals at Clovelly, that this is happening on the 29th July. W.P. Golf will contact you with all the details, but feel free to get in touch with Nic Lochner if you have any queries. The men’s winners were Neil Campbell (A Division), Martin Peter (B Division) and Neil Balfour (C Division). The ladies were as follows – Tessa Granger (A Division), Edwina Burger (B Division) and Alison Gilbert (C Division). Good luck to you all!

The 21 Cup winner

The 21 Cup Winner held during our last Medal Day on the 7th July was Kevin Loney (left). The winner of the Murray Anderson Trophy on the same day was Dave Granger (right). Well done gentlemen!

Charity Drive for Madiba Day

In conjunction with Madiba’s 100th birthday celebrations, we are having a charity drive for our caddies. This is in the form of any second hand (or new) clothes, shoes etc. or even a monetary donation, food etc. Whatever takes your fancy that could make a difference in the lives of our caddies and their families. Please bring your gifts to the club office and we will be doing the hand-over at the Caddy Champs on the 27th August.

A final reminder

Please keep your carts off tee boxes and away from Greens surrounds. This is still happening and the Golf Ops Committee are keeping a sharp eye out for any transgressions. Please assist us in keeping the course in pristine condition and avoid receiving a yellow or even a red card.

There is still one Bells TaylorMade Golf Bag up for grabs!

If you drink a Bells, put your slip in the box provided and it could be you! (Time I started drinking Bells I think – it is a stunning bag on view in the bar).

Finally, The Open starts today!

This is one event that captivates us all. Come and enjoy the 4 days of golf at the club and bring your families and friends along. It is wide open this year with many of the world’s top players in fine form. I have a sneaking suspicion Tommy Fleetwood will feature prominently… Let’see… Enjoy it!
