Members play almost 70% of our rounds at Zwartkop, which is one of the highest figures in South Africa. Corporate Golf Days and Groups account for 19% of the rounds, while visitors account for the other 11%. We are thrilled to have you playing here.

Great Stuff Scratch League!
A hearty congratulations to the Zwartkop Men’s Scratch League (Brent Goddard; Niklas van Wyk; Leon Scheepers Jnr; Carel du Plessis; Morne van Waltsleben; Duane du Toit; Chris Delport; Neil Goosen; Willam Skinner; Devon du Toit and Christopher van der Merwe), some of whom are pictured here, who have won their league for the first time in many years.

Well-done gents on an awesome achievement!		  

There’s great sport coming up later this week!
The Soccer World Cup kicks off on Thursday in Russia…Come down and watch them take on Saudi Arabia at 17h00. We’ll have Russian Rolls on sale at R30 as well as Vodka Shooters on special!

On Saturday South Africa will take on England again in the Rugby Test. We’ll have the same Carlsberg draft special for the game. You can enjoy an ice-cold Carlsberg draft for only R10! During the Second half, your ice-cold Carlsberg will only cost you R20 and then, when South Africa wins, you get to enjoy one Carlsberg Draft on the house!

We’re trying to do our bit to reduce our use of plastics…
Did you know in the USA alone 500 million straws are used every day – that’s enough straws to circle around the Earth 2.5 times – and they take over 200 years to decompose! Say no to plastic straws! We will no longer be handing them out but if really do want one, please ask your waiter.

One truck driver is counting his lucky stars...
After his brakes failed while driving down Old Joburg Rd on Friday lunchtime, a truck driver swerved across three busy lanes before careening down the embankment next to the 18th tee. He broke through the boundary fence and was stopped from being dumped in the river by a few spindly trees. Amazingly no one was injured and he did not come into contact with any cars or golfers. Someone was watching over us all!

Wingate / Waterkloof / Zwartkop Alliance
We have an Alliance between ourselves; Waterkloof and Wingate, which allows you to play at their courses as members. Please do remember to follow the rules when using the Alliance: -
• Bookings can only be made by our golf shop staff so contact Ian, Joseph, Vusi or Johan and they will make the booking on your behalf. Please do not arrive at Wingate or Waterkloof without an advance booking having being made by our staff!
• Bookings are subject to availability and can only be made one week in advance for games Monday to Friday and Sunday.
• Bookings for Saturday afternoons can only be made the day before.
• Saturday mornings are excluded from the arrangement.

Loki Rothman – Fri, 6th July
We are thrilled to announce that the fabulous talent that is Loki Rothman will be back at Zwartkop in July. He’s had a busy year but has found time to visit us. If you haven’t seen him, we can’t rave about him enough. You have to see him at least once because once he’s discovered overseas he will not be back! Sunday was a day for the young Ben Zeelie (pictured here) when he tried to catch up to his father’s hole-in-one two weeks ago. He had an eagle on the 6th and followed that with a birdie on the 7th to go -1 (35) on his back nine. This game really does have its shares of highs and lows!

Course designers are clearly
in league with golf ball manufacturers.

How many golf courses have a
Par 3, about 5 Iron distance,
with water on the right?

They know that an Iron over 38“
long and less than 28° of loft
has a good chance of going right.


 
   
Ten years ago, we told you that your
4 Iron loft had strengthened to become
the same loft as the previous year’s 3 Iron.
Your 5 Iron will today will have the same
loft as that 3 Iron.		 Without question, most golfers ought to be
replacing their 5 Iron with a Hybrid.
They should be investing in improving
their technique. And smiling as they walk
up to their ball on the green. It makes it easier
to enjoy the geese! It also means you’re
buying less golf balls.
 
Bring your problem distance to us. Let us spend time whether improving your technique with an existing club,
or filling the gap with a better solution. Come and spend 45 minutes with us,
and let’s see how best to fill that gap.
 

 
 
We want more golfers to have a great experience out on the golf course.

To do that, you don’t have to take on the same challenge as
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Louis Oosthuizen, Shangsan Feng or Lexi Thompson.
In fact, you already don’t play the same length golf course they do.

So, let’s play more formats that make it more enjoyable for more golfers.
 
 
PGA Junior League is a format that combines a competitive element with a game that stays ‘in play’ longer
(2v2 over 3x3 holes), with the playability benefits of a Scramble format.

There are 3 ‘flags’ to be won. If you’re playing 18, why not play 2v2 better ball scramble, over 3x6 holes?
 
 And actually, why not find time to
play nine in this format (3x3 holes),
 before or after your day?

Or nine on a Sunday afternoon
with the family?
 
You can still have friendly competition, but it’s likely that this is a much more social format:
you come together on the tee; for the 2nd shot; and on the green. That’s more fun together.
 

Try it. Try and think of different ways to play the game, to allow the less skilled the opportunity to
get much more enjoyment from the experience. Or for you to change it up and enjoy yourself more.
