Congratulations Francesco Molinari This past Sunday was one of the best final rounds of a Major Championship in a long time. At one stage there was around 15 players that could have ended up winning and becoming “The Champion Golf of the Year” for 2018.
It was good to see Tiger Woods in the hunt, and I’m sure many of you were routing for him to take it home. I was one of those people.
Justin Rose made birdie on his last hole in the 2nd round to make the cut on the number and ended the weekend strong to finish T2nd.
At the end it came down to the golfer that made the least number of bogeys in the final round, and that was Francesco Molinari, with scores of 65 and 69 on the weekend, to claim the Claret Jug.
Well done to him, for becoming the first Italian to hold the Claret Jug. | | |
Over the past weekend, we had our 3rd annual Open Challenge against Benoni Country Club.
Both teams consist of 16 players, and the event takes place over 2 days. Friday the 20th July, we had a warm welcome at BCC at 05h30 as the players warmed up for the 1st round of the challenge. In the 1st round the teams played Foursomes and teed off at 06h30. After the foursomes, BCC had a 5.5/2.5 lead. The 2nd round was played in the afternoon at Ebotse Links, as the teams played BetterBall Matchplay. The 2nd round teed off from 11h00 and it was an evenly matched round, as both teams took 4 points at the end of that round. This left BCC with a 9.5/6.5 lead going into the 2nd day and final round of Singles Matchplay. The teams got together at Ebotse Links at 07h00 Saturday morning, and the team spirits were high. Both teams came out fighting, and after 9 holes, it looked as BCC were going to walk away with the trophy. On the back 9, the Ebotse Links team fought back hard and at the end of the round, saw Ebotse Links take 10 points out of the 16 points available, which gave Ebotse Links a 16.5/15.5 win.

Big thanks must go to the people that commit their time and efforts in preparing this challenge every year.
