Final preparation for IPT We are making the final preparations for IPT from 16 – 21 September. The recent rain couldn’t have been better timed as we just fertilised the course. This week’s warmer forecast will help to spur growth on the golf course.
We are very proud to have been asked to host two IPT events in consecutive years. The IPT is the biggest amateur team event in South Africa, requiring meticulous attention to the preparation of the course as well as the supporting and auxiliary arrangements. Members can watch the tournament in their private carts but please keep to the cart path and observe all golf etiquette.
IPT competitors play two practice rounds (Sat and Sun) with the complete opening ceremony on Sunday evening. We have set aside a limited number of t-times for members on Saturday. The event closes on Friday, 21 September with the prize-giving and closing ceremony.
If you are not able to book your round, please consider the reciprocal arrangements we have with Kingswood (R230 plus R120 cart), Pezula and Simola (R550 incl seat on cart). Pinnacle have offered a rate of R475 (incl cart) for this time.

South Cape Foursomes
Congratulations to Aidan Boon and Ben van Wyk who won the South Cape Foursomes event (26 Aug) at Oubaai on Sunday with -2.
The new HNI at Oubaai Last Monday was the switch over to the new Handicap Index system. You now have a handicap index calculated by the HNA which is converted to your handicap when you check in at the Pro Shop. We have printed temporary scorecards that will be replaced by new printed score cards in due course. | Knock-Outs Reminder
If you are still in Knock Outs, please remember to play your next match before the end of September to keep the tournament on track. Please bear in mind that the course will be closed during IPT 16 – 21 September. If you are struggling with a date to play, please get in touch with Thinus to arrange an extension. Oubaai Pro Shop The one dozen Srixon Ball promotion is still available! Buy any dozen Srixon balls, choose your favourite number (1-100) from the raffle board and you stand a 1 in 100 chance of winning R10,000 to spend in our Pro Shop! When we have sold the 100 dozen balls the winner will be drawn from the selected numbers! We are really looking forward to the arrival of all the new ranges starting in September. We have a new range of Galvin Green, adidas, Under Armour, Daily Sports, Kate Lorde, Annika, Ernie Els, Ahead and Cutter & Buck. | Karen Saayman
Just to let you know that Karen will be operating from the Oubaai Hotel with immediate effect. Her role remains the same with regards to members matters. Karen’s relocation forms part of the closer links between the hotel and golf club with joint marketing campaigns on the cards.
Obey the white line
You may have noticed on certain holes that there is a painted white line across the fairway. The line indicates where carts need to leave the fairway. It has the same function as a rope across the fairway but allows maintenance staff to mow the course unhindered.
We appeal to members to keep carts on the path for as much of your round as possible to ease the wear on the golf course. Please try to follow the 90 degree principle – ie stay on the cart path until you are in line with your ball. Take a 90 degree turn towards your ball (if permitted by ropes and lines) and return to the cart path at your earliest opportunity. |

| | If you’re playing with a driver over 5 years old, then the opportunity for us to add huge distance is on the table. Manufacturers no longer have to compromise between forgiveness and other performance features. The result of lower spin for instance, can be added distance and less deviation offline. There’s a win. | | | | | | Never mind the 36 extra metres, the tee shots were straighter. Bringing down spin also reduces the amount of deviation in ball flight. | | | There’s a Driver DNA – ball speed, launch angle, & spin rate. We need to match those when fitting you for a Driver. How close is your Driver to your Launch DNA now? Do you have 20 metres or more of performance in the right DNA? Come and see us. Let’s unlock your potential to thrill. | | |

| | To lower your scoring, you must be a confident greenside player. Without using your bounce it is difficult to make consistent contact to build that confidence. Different coaches will teach different chipping techniques to different golfers, depending on skill level and how much time they have to perfect their technique. | | | | A ‘classic’ approach is to take up a stance with the hands forward and the ball back in our stance, and then make contact with the ball with the hands still ahead. This method is simple to understand, but requires perfect contact. Do you get to practise everyday? If you can learn how to use your bounce it becomes easier to make solid contact, even if you’re stroke is slightly off. It’s perfect for weekend golfers who don’t have the time to practise everyday. | | | | | Using the bounce on your wedge makes chipping off all lies a lot simpler. Are you working with your wedge design? | | |
