Special attention giving to the course and clubhouse During our course closure Charl Blaauw and his team did a lot of work on the course and I am happy to say that it was very successful. The greens have recovered very fast from the hollowtining and they will get quicker with every day that passes. We have played a couple rounds now and the greens are still very true and if you hit the ball with enough pace they can't miss. The tee boxes were also hollowtined, fairways were sliced, bunkers were repaired, divots were filled with seed, bushes were cleared and many broken irrigation pipes were fixed. The much needed rain came at the perfect time and we were able to fertilize the whole course just before the big rain in September. The course is going to be fantastic with the Sunshine Tour coming here at the end of the month. During the whole Spring treatment, Charl made great videos and we encourage you to have a look at them to see what happened whilst we were closed. Click below links to see each video, it is worth it! The clubhouse also received attention. The front entrance to the clubhouse has been neatened up, Jack's Bar received a whole makeover and the Lighthouse Restaurant is currently receiving a facelift. We trust that you all enjoy the new look and feel of the renovated clubhouse.
The Links Cup 6 - 7 October 2018 This year's Links Cup matches will be played on 6 and 7 September 2018. The last couple of years The Links Cup has turned into a one day event due to multiple reasons. Due to the Sunshine Tour being here during The Ryder Cup and our Inter Estate players competing at the final qualifying event at Goose Valley on the Sunday, we have moved the date a week later. We would like to bring it back to its former glory and play the matches over two days. On Saturday we start off with betterball matchplay on the front 9, and close off the back 9 with foursomes matchplay. Sunday morning we will return for 18 holes of indivdual matchplay. South Africa or International... it doesn't matter. Everyone receives a medal. Thank you Colin Higgins for you continued support by sponsoring the medals, they are world class! | | | Barry Phillips reaches 100, twice in one day! On 18 August 2018 Barry did a double 100. No, he did not shoot 100 on the front 9 and followed it up with another 100 on the back nine! As many of you know Barry does parkrun before he plays golf on a Saturday morning. Saturday the 18th was a very special day. He did his 100th Parkrun and played his 100th round at St Francis Links. Congrats Barry, 200 is just around the corner. | | | Open Wednesday Itec are our sponsors for Open Wednesday (2nd Wednesday) with meat and added prizes. | | If you’re playing with a driver over 5 years old, then the opportunity for us to add huge distance is on the table. Manufacturers no longer have to compromise between forgiveness and other performance features. The result of lower spin for instance, can be added distance and less deviation offline. There’s a win. | | | | | | Never mind the 36 extra metres, the tee shots were straighter. Bringing down spin also reduces the amount of deviation in ball flight. | | | There’s a Driver DNA – ball speed, launch angle, & spin rate. We need to match those when fitting you for a Driver. How close is your Driver to your Launch DNA now? Do you have 20 metres or more of performance in the right DNA? Come and see us. Let’s unlock your potential to thrill. | | |

| | To lower your scoring, you must be a confident greenside player. Without using your bounce it is difficult to make consistent contact to build that confidence. Different coaches will teach different chipping techniques to different golfers, depending on skill level and how much time they have to perfect their technique. | | | | A ‘classic’ approach is to take up a stance with the hands forward and the ball back in our stance, and then make contact with the ball with the hands still ahead. This method is simple to understand, but requires perfect contact. Do you get to practise everyday? If you can learn how to use your bounce it becomes easier to make solid contact, even if you’re stroke is slightly off. It’s perfect for weekend golfers who don’t have the time to practise everyday. | | | | | Using the bounce on your wedge makes chipping off all lies a lot simpler. Are you working with your wedge design? | | |
