The 44th Royal & Ancient featured 75 teams competing this year and during the first round, scoring conditions proved to be very good with over half of the field shooting in the 60's. Friday's first-round scores were highlighted by the teams of Scott Buhl/Ryan Buhl and Rock Edwards/Dan Williams tied for the lead at 62 (-10), followed by the defending champions Fred Webster/Steve Potter and Michael Holling/John Embree right behind the leaders at 64 (-8).

With overnight thunderstorms making the final round contested with lift, clean and place, scoring for the final round was much more volatile. A few hours ahead of the leaders, the pace for the day was being set by J.D. Wright/Chad Thomas with a final round of 63 (-9), leaving them in the clubhouse at -13 for the tournament. With -13 in the clubhouse, the team of Bob Schriver/Ben Perks was starting to get things rolling on the back nine with 5 birdies and posting a final round score of 64 (-8), eclipsing the lead by one and posting -14 in the clubhouse. With the overnight leaders both struggling, the team of Dan Huber/Eric Mogentale was off to a fast start with a 30 (-6) on the front nine, bringing them to -12 for the tournament entering the back nine. With an eagle on #10, they now had the lead at -14 with 8 holes to play. Meanwhile, the defending champs, Webster/Potter birdied holes 10, 13, and 14 to get to -13 and within striking distance. After a bogey by Huber/Mogentale on #14, we had a 3-way tie for first place at -13. Both teams birdied #15 to get to 14 under par and set the stage for an exciting finish. Huber/Mogentale proceeded to birdie #16 and #17 to take a 2 shot lead with one hole to play. With a solid par on #18, Dan Huber and Eric Mogentale secured the title and were crowned 2018 Royal & Ancient Champions.

SENIOR MEMBER-GUEST TOURNAMENT – JULY 25 - 26

We’re currently accepting applications for the Senior Member-Guest Tournament, which will be held on Wednesday, July 25 and Thursday, July 26. Members and Guests age 55 or older are eligible to participate. The format of play will be better ball of partners for the first round. The top four teams in each flight will advance to match play on the second day. The remaining teams not qualifying for match play will all play another round of better ball of partners. The field will be limited to the first 32 teams. Applications are available in the Pro Shop.

MEN’S FALL INVITATIONAL – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14

Invitations will be mailed out in July for our Men’s Fall Invitational tournament to be held on Friday, September 14. The format will have each team play three 9-hole formats (Better Ball, Chapman Alternate Shot, and Scramble) in a net competition within flights.

CADDIE TOURNAMENT/DINNER – WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22

Earlier in the afternoon our Caddie-Member Tournament will shotgun start at 2:00 pm with foursomes of Members/Caddies competing in a scramble format.

After the golf event, our annual Caddie Program Dinner will be held, starting at 6:30 pm. The dinner is held to show appreciation to our caddies for their service to the Club. Donations received through the caddie fund go directly to the prizes awarded at the banquet. The sign-up sheet for donations will be posted in the Men’s Locker Room bulletin board. We will also have donation cards in the Pro Shop if you wish to pick one up.
