Dear Member

Please find herewith a brief description and update of the respective projects currently underway on the course.

Compared to the previous past few years, this year we have managed to limit the amount of disturbance to the course caused by the undertaking of numerous construction projects. However, there are minor works underway as we continue to strive for improvements.

Tees at holes 8, 11 and 12 were completed during our course closure period and are progressing well with our greenkeeper estimating an opening date of approximately 3 weeks’ time. Minor works will be taking place at Holes 3 and 8 where additional championship tees are being constructed over the next few weeks although these will have little to no effect on general play.

You may have noticed some construction work underway at the chipping green where we are in the process of rebuilding the practice bunker. We are particularly excited about this as we are trialling the latest in bunker lining technology. The bunker will be lined utilising a porous concrete mixture, which completely seals off the base of the bunker from future contamination from the base upwards, whilst dramatically improving the bunkers drainage capability. Unfortunately there have been quite severe weather delays during the excavation and re-shaping process but we estimate to have the bunker complete and in play (weather dependant) by the end of next week (8th June).

For some time we have been aware of numerous areas around the course where the cart paths have degraded to a point beyond internal repair and we can gladly inform you that a contractor has been appointed to address the most severe areas of concern (Holes 1 - 18) in a systematic manner which will gain quick improvements whilst minimising disturbance to play. This project will continue and be completed by the end of July.

Since the installation of water saving devices (showers and hand basin taps) the club has run a few models in the last 2 months and proved that the saving is significant. The committee has therefore made a decision to re-open these facilities with immediate effect with the proviso we limit showering time to 2 min max. We would like to thank all our members for their support regarding this matter.

A notice will be sent out next week informing members of our next member communication session that we plan to host on Monday, 16 July.

Kind regards,
Alfie Payne

Keagan Thomas shines at 2018 De Zalze Open

We hosted another successful De Zalze Open this last weekend. Some of the best young golfers in the Boland turned up on a beautiful Sunday and there was some phenomenal scores. In the morning field a total of 10 golfers managed to shoot an under par score. In the end Keagan Thomas came out on top with scores of 67 and 70 with a total of 5 under par. We would like to congratulate Keagan with his victory and some great golf on a challenging golf course. We are looking forward to hosting another De Zalze Open in 2019.

What's coming up at the club?
I would like to remind all of you to please familiarize yourself with our upcoming events on our calendar. We have had a few members who said that they were not aware of events coming up, our calendar and website has all the information needed. Please click on this link and see what we have coming up.

Scoring procedures

I would like to remind our members of the correct scoring procedures in competition days. We have had numerous competition days where it becomes difficult to keep track of golfers and their results. Please take a minute to familiarise yourselves with the below:

All golfers must ensure that there are two signatures on each scorecard.
The result is filled into the result box.
You have to fill in your name, surname and handicap.

The card should match the competition on the day. For example, a fourball should hand in a scorecard for each golfer in the group when the competition is an individual stableford. In a betterball two scorecards are handed in; and in a fourball alliance one scorecard.

Also note that in a betterball or individual stableford golfers must swop cards with their opponents. Each card must have a marker and player to verify scores after each hole.

If we can ask all of our members to please assist us with the above it will be greatly appreciated. If you need any help or advise please ask the Pro Shop team to assist you.

“Both these golfers see golf as a social pastime. It’s an opportunity to have an enjoyable outdoor hobby that they can enjoy with friends. They like to hit good shots but know they won’t have the time or inclination to commit to be as good they can be. But both could increase the number of good shots they hit quite easily if they looked for the easy, big wins open to most golfers.”

Your distance potential is determined to large extent by your clubhead speed and we
want to make sure you’re not losing out. We can do this using a combination of appropriate technique
adjustments and golf-specific fitness exercises.

Clubhead speed, as the name suggests, is the speed of the clubhead immediately before impact with the golf ball,
and it has a big impact on your potential distance.
