Club News It will be greener on our side! 40mls has just fallen and the course is going to green up so brilliantly. Thanks Richard Bridgeford for the pic! | | | Turning 80 with a spring in our step What a wonderful evening we had at Southbroom on Saturday, celebrating the start of Spring and the Southbroom Golf Clubs 80th Birthday. The Legends Band had a full dance floor, playing all the favourites. The buffet style dinner was amazing and the décor was great fun, with different tables interpreting Spring & golf! The Official opening was 31 May 1939- as a 9-hole golf course, developing into 18 holes in the early 1950’s and it is now just the most wonderful golf course. | | | Short course, long views The course is short - so often not regarded as a championship golf course. But our par 3s in particular, are as good as any I have played anywhere in the world. This sounds like a big statement, but they are special and I really believe this. The 4th is short with spectacular views and changes radically with the weather. The 8th aims more east with great views; and don’t be short. Can be a long club even for good players. The 11th has cross winds to deal with, water right and bunkers left and the beautiful Nigel Matthews bridge to cross. Then the 14th, a proper links type hole with no water, playing long into the wind and it is best to bump and run downwind to a small green with bunkers both left and right. So good! | What's hot in the shop? I have some great Titleist specials in the Pro Shop. AP1 irons plus a Vokey wedge and a bag with a lesson. | Fall in love with golf | | | | | | We’re not trying to create the next great tour superstar. We’re trying to help junior golfers fall in love with the game of golf. | | | | If we can do that, they’ll be healthier, happier, and have a game and friends for a lifetime. Whether they’ve played the game before, play the game now, or have never played the game, we’ll promise you that we’ll take care of them, and set them on the pathway to a lifelong love affair with the game. | | | Sign your children up for one of our fun junior golf programmes.
