We will open on Thursday 3rd October from 11h00. | I am sure many members would have been wondering why the golf course is so dry; we have been in the process of redoing the pump house and only had 1 pump working for over 3 weeks, while they were busy with installing the new pumps, filters and piping. Why did we redo the pump house? The old pumps were working on a negative suction, meaning the pumps were above the water source, normally pump houses work on gravity-fed water supply. The maintenance cost and electricity were very high each year because the pumps have to work so much harder. New improved pump house Because of the water source being below the pump house we opted to go for submersible pumps, these pumps don’t need to be primed, previous pumps always needed to be primed. 1. Four new submersible pumps were installed, these are top of the range pumps and motors, all the suction lines were also replaced. The pumps are 6m below the water surface to ensure they do not suck any air. | | | | | | New suction lines with submersible pumps | | Old suction lines | 2. All the pumps get controlled by a VSD (Variable Speed Drive), one main pump runs straight of the VSD, where the other three pumps works with slave drives controlled by the VSD. The previous pumps worked on a VSD and electrical breakers, electrical breakers kick in and cannot be controlled by the VSD, works on pressure alone to switch on and off. | | | | | | Slave Drives | | VSD Drive | | Old Electricity Panel | 3. All the piping and filters were replaced inside the pump house, the filters are very important to ensure no foreign objects goes into the irrigation system which will damage sprinklers and solenoid valves. | | | | | | New Piping | | New Filters | The irrigation is the heart of the golf course, without a proper pump house it is very difficult to irrigate the golf course. We have 16 hectares under irrigation with over 3 000 sprinklers, you can only imagine how hard these pumps need to work. Thank you, Hardus Maritz GM - Ebotse Links The pipeline project has reached the 17th green, and is at that stage where we needed to change the golf course around. The 16th Hole will be a par 3 playing from the Tee Box of the 18th Hole before the bridge crossing over the enviromental area. So we will have back to back Par 3’s. The 17th Hole will now be a par 4, and then players returning back to the 18th Hole. We apologize for any inconvienience casued, but this is a temporary solution for the interim. Squash Championships will be played in a pool format, so everybody will get to play a few games with the top players going through to the final. Divisions are: Men’s, Ladies, junior boys (U19) and junior girls (U19). The Championship will be commencing on the 23rd September 2019.
