New gear, rules and fitting

When the boss gets new gear we get excited.

Tim put new Titleist T100 irons and a U500 hybrid in his bag and began the process of getting to know his new irons. Modus 130s are on board and performing quite nicely.

One of our long-time customers was fit recently into a new set of irons. P.R. was put into Yonex irons and wedges and PING G410 hybrid. He decided it was time for a change and his words were,
“Tim, you’ve done it again.”

Customers keep coming back because they know what we do and give them consistent results each and every time. And if you’re reading this and you’ve not come in, give us a visit and we’ll walk you around the facility to see what we do and how. I know you’ll be impressed, especially with all the shafts on the wall.  Trust me, we’ll find options that will work for whatever numbers you need.

Last week I asked a question on whether you putt with the pin in or out.  I got a few responses.  Of the ones I got, they leaned more towards taking the pin out.  Some said it was “cheating.” Others said it was “not in the spirit of the game.” Conversely, I also got, “I’ll take all the help I can get” and my personal favorite, “When is Rick Wright coming back? I need help! Having the flag in or out doesn’t matter when you can’t putt.”

Whatever your stance on it, it’s here for a while and it’s an option available to you as a player. I don’t know whether it really speeds play or not, but it is what it is. And many will take full advantage of it.

We can’t let you go a week without introducing new equipment.  Titleist is rounding out their lineup with the TS2 and TS3 hybrids.  Born from the Titleist Speed Project, TS Hybrids represent a new standard in hybrid performance. In a word, these things just GO. They look great, feel amazing, and explode through the ball with a lively Tour-preferred sound.

That sounds like an ad doesn’t it?

The new TS series hybrids will be available this fall.

Center of Gravity (CoG) matters

CoG can impact tee shot distance by 20+ yards

Below are two drivers with exactly the same loft. Let’s assume they also have the identical shaft and shaft length.

The white DOT marks the CoG
The white line through the centre of each driver represents the neutral axis. Almost all drivers have a CoG that is above this line. Both the distance above, and how forward or back the CoG is, will impact on the angle the ball actually launches, the amount of spin on the ball, and the amount of MOI (forgiveness the driver has).

The driver on the left will go further for a slower swing speed golfer as it will launch higher and with more spin. The driver on the right will go further for a more aggressive golfer with a faster swing speed because it will launch a little lower and spin a lot less.

The difference between CoG locations in drivers can be measured in millimeters, but the difference in distance can be measured in tens of yards.

CoG affects the launch conditions (angle and spin) and that significantly impacts on how far your ball will travel.

It’s time to do something

What is happening to our children?

Right now, we have a younger generation who are expected to LOSE 5 years of expected life because of childhood obesity, poor nutrition and activity, and the rise of type-2 diabetes and coronary disease.  Golf can help reverse this trend.

We need children to become more active. Of course, they need to participate in more than one activity, but golf should be one of the activities. It has everything for a child.

Start your child now
With young children we’re not thinking about creating Tour superstars, we’re trying to introduce them to a pastime that will offer them the chance to live an active and social lifestyle that will make them healthier for their whole life. It’s time to do something.
