This fabulous day would not have been possible without their financial support.

To the amazing Committee Members – Tracey Glasby [vice-Captain], Yvette Negrine, Julie Hamman, Rosa-Linda Wessels, Leigh Mitchell and Leonie Swart there are no words great enough to express my thanks for their dedication, loyal support and assistance. They have all excelled themselves.

Thank you to all the people who assisted and went the extra mile to obtain prizes and items for our goodie bags and raffle hampers – the lady golfers loved them. An amount of R8000 was raised for the New Life Centre which was the charity organization we supported for the day. It was an amazing day and we supported an amazing cause.

To all the DBV GC personnel thank you for assisting in making this event possible – your support and kindness is greatly appreciated.

Seniors' League

After a winter break, the Seniors League got under way again at the beginning of September in a match against Paarl at Somerset West Golf Club. With several of the previous team unavailable for various reasons, there were necessary selection changes. Not for the leading pair of Suat Palanduz and TJ Lee however who yet again got the team off to a winning start, although not with their usual fluency and dovetailing as their opponents took them to the 18th. Behind them, a new pairing of Deon Minnar and Winston Heunis succumbed to an inspired 12 handicapper and his partner before another new pair of Greg Baxter and Bert
Vos had an excellent 3&2 win.

The third new pairing of Mike Rolfe and Peter Seward could not have made a worse start, finding themselves four down after four holes playing against an 81 year old with an exceptional short game. Recovering superbly to go one up after the 11th, three successive lost holes meant they were back to dormie two down. This was salvaged with wins on the 17th and again on the 18th as Mike holed a testing 10 footer to halve the match.

And so to the final game where Pieter van Wyk and Jan Horn fell just short on their 18th hole to lose 1 down.  This left the overall match tied at two and a half games each. Thus any chance of defending the title Durbanville won in 2018 disappeared as Bellville secured their seventh straight win and needing just one more to secure the trophy. The next round in October sees a Bye for Durbanville before playing Parow at Devonvale on Tuesday 12 November.

Bob Rees,

Yours in Golf,
The DGC Team

What are you buying?

There is something exquisite about finding the sweet spot with an iron. Everything feels so perfect in that moment.

Achieving that moment requires, returning the clubface square to the target with the sole square to the turf. That’s very difficult if the lie angle / shaft length combination is wrong for you.

Over 80% of golfers play with equipment that makes it more difficult to experience the perfect iron shot. You can change your experience. You can make more magic.

You can do this
Let’s get your irons checked. Let’s help you make sure you have a setup that makes it easier to create more magical moments. Come and see us. Call us, or
Book an equipment assessment >

Consistently better

From the top, which part of your body initiates the downswing? Many get into a good position at the top, but then allow the
downswing to start with their arms or even hands.

This is a good position. A downswing started
with the arms.

You want accuracy and consistency of ball strike with approach shots. That is much, much easier to achieve if the large muscles control your first movement back to the ball.

Easy to say, harder to do
Male golfers especially are conditioned to try and hit the ball with their arms and hands. I want all of you to take an #8 iron, get out on the range, hit balls, and to try and quieten your arms and hands. Try consciously hitting the ball with your “body” rotation. Notice how much more solid you can strike the ball. Practise this.
