Lockdown Update #6

My fellow inmates,

Today would have been our last day of lockdown, but as we all know it’s been postponed by two weeks. We are now opening on a very appropriate day – Workers Day, 1st May – Hallelujah – may this be true!

I have attached a little song for you which everyone should know to celebrate this significant day – 1st May.

It is amazing how music helps you to cope with the lockdown.

Golf update

Somerset West Garden Open

If we can’t play on our course we must think of doing it somewhere else. Kevin vd Spuy and Joanne Newell have come up with two excellent ideas.

Here are all the details below:

Date: Saturday, 18th of April
Tee-off time: 15h00 (shotgun start)
Venue: Your own garden course
Format: 18-holes, single stableford
Cost: 5 smarties
Dress: Normal golf attire (i.e. no slops, slippers or bare feet)

Rules

To be able to participate, you must design and build your own course on your own property, consisting of the following:

a)
Minimum of 3 holes (can use up to 9 different tee-boxes if you wish or play the same course 6 times).
b) Cup size no bigger than a cake tin.
c) Minimum length of hole is to be 10m, maximum of 20m.
d) All holes are deemed to be par 3s.
e) An iron must be used from the tee-box (putting off of the tee box equates to a 2 shot penalty).
f) The pool will be treated as a normal water hazard. Play from the point of entry with a 1 shot penalty.
g) Out of bounds: Normal stroke and distance (out of bounds would mean your neighbour's garden or if you hit inside of your own house).
h) Unplayable lies: 1 shot penalty/drop two club lengths not nearer the hole.
i) Outside agents: should a dog/little kid/angry wife/husband move or remove your ball, you may replace the ball without incurring a penalty. Advise them to keep their social distance.
j) Halfway house: grab 'n go.
k) NO MULLIGANS!
l) Your score card must be sent to me no later than 16h30
Hoezit@mweb.co.za
m) Prize giving will be posted by latest 17h30.
n) NB! All bars to close at 17h45 according to Cyril’s wishes.
o) Local rule: Happy hour may commence at 18h00.
p) The kitchen closes at 20h00.

E-mail lay out of your course and some photos/video of you competing to manager@somersetwestgolfclub.co.za

That’s all. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested.

Kind regards,
Kevin vd Spuy

Chipping Competition

We also have a chipping competition for all our members – a little challenge from our ladies section!

Rules are simple:

1. You have to be a minimum of 3 meters from the target (ladder)
2. Place 4 golf ball size boxes on each step of ladder
3. You can use maximum of 6 balls per attempt
4. You have to remove all 4 boxes from bottom to top (chipping only) within 60 seconds (Joanne did it in 28 seconds)
5. If you succeed you need to send your video as proof to our Ladies captain – Sonja Koehler
taosteps@gmail.com

In the video below Joanne Newell demonstrates how it is done. Anyone that beats Joanne’s time will get a free drink compliments from Ladies section!

P.S.

Course Update

We had some lovely rain on Monday +- 20 mm and the Geelsloot filled the dam considerably. Skeleton staff are still maintaining our course and she is resting well and is blossoming.
