THE CLUB

Dear Member,

Subscriptions are due and must please be paid as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. All invoices have been sent out to members. If you have not received your invoice, please contact Nadja on membership@randpark.co.za.

Golf Carts
Great news! 30 golf carts will be delivered tomorrow, taking the club’s fleet to 67 carts, and will all be fitted with GPS units. We are confident that we will be able to finish the fitting of the GPS units before the weekend, but please bear with us if you do get a cart that might not have a unit yet.

There is no doubt that we have seen an increase in demand for carts, compared to before. It is important to book your cart in advance to avoid disappointment.

Security
Randpark Club has always given the highest priority to the safety and security of our members and visitors to the Club. As a result, we have re-appointed Ghost Squad Tactical (a leading, proactive Security Service provider) to manage the security and safety of the Randpark Club from Friday evening 30th April 2021.

Ghost Squad has worked with the Club to review and implement several proactive security measures to prevent future incidents, as best possible, on the Club’s premises. To this end, with effect from Friday evening 30th April, a Ghost Squad Security Officer will take active control of the exit boom and carry out proactive security checks on vehicles leaving the Club’s parking area. This will involve the Officer engaging with the driver of the vehicle at the boom to quickly check that there are keys in the ignition and then requesting that the vehicle be turned off and on again, prior to the exit boom being opened by the Officer.

The screening procedure will be carried out as quickly as possible to ensure that you are not delayed in your exit and will go a long way to ensure that your vehicle is not being removed illegally. Members and visitors are requested to be prepared for this check by opening their window on approach to the exit boom and then cooperate with the Security Officer’s request for the vehicle to be turned off and on again.

We trust that you will appreciate the need for these checks to ensure your and your vehicle’s safety and wish to thank you in advance for your support of this new measure.

Locker Room Update
Towels, deodorant, sunblock and water will be available in the locker rooms from this weekend onwards. It is still each and every member’s responsibility to ensure we follow all the Covid-19 regulations when making use of the facilities and it is still recommended that members make use of their own towels and shampoo/body wash lotion. Sanitisers are available in each shower.

Bushwillow Tees & Bunkers
Tees on Bushwillow have been struggling a bit partly due to traffic and limited teeing space, but also because of poor irrigation coverage. We have experimented with a wetting agent to try and improve the infiltration on the tees and hopefully keep the soil moisture levels higher. This will improve recovery and make it easier to push your tees into the ground. An added benefit of the wetting agent is it limits dew formation on the grass, which should also limit the amount of frost on the tees.

We have started topping up Bushwillow’s bunkers and have completed the 12th and 13th this week. We have used white silica sand, so they do stand out, but it will soon mix in to give the familiar brown colour. This will improve playability in the long term, but as with any new bunker, the sand will be on the soft side for the first few weeks. We will be watering them and using the machine to compact the sand.

Cart Paths
Small cart path repairs and improvements are also complete and we are looking at further improvements to the path network to improve unsightly bumpy areas and to better cope with the increased cart traffic.

Happy golfing
Francois

CADDY LEAGUE

The first round of the Caddie League got underway on Monday, 26th April, and was played at Glenvista Country Club. We entered one side this year and we will be rotating the team to give all our playing caddies the opportunity to represent Randpark for the season. The team on Monday consisted of Edward Ramatlhodi, Michael Mteshi, Andile Mdzelu and Petrous Mwoplewa. They represented Randpark with great pride and enjoyed every minute of the experience. Unfortunately, they did not get the result they wished for, but there is still a lot of games left for the season. The team ended 12th out of 22 teams on the day, and it is a result to be very proud of. We believe that the team will go from strength to strength and build towards achieving better results for the rest of the season.

RANDPARK APP - USER LOGIN SECURITY

A few months ago, the service provider of our mobile app and the website golf booking platform implemented a security change that automatically logged users out after 60 minutes.

This change was short-term and a new path forward has been determined, which will balance the need for enhanced security of sensitive member information while allowing for a much better user experience. The following changes have now been implemented:

The newly enacted member login session length is 14 days, thus providing Website and Mobile App users with an improved experience.
The 14-day session timeout will not be a rolling timeout. This means that continued activity within the 14 days will not refresh the session. All user sessions will automatically log out at midnight, 14 days from the initial login.

RULE CORRECTION

In the newsletter on 22nd April, we spoke about taking full advantage of rules and how you can benefit from some rules when on the course. It was brought to our attention that one rule in the content was incorrect:

“First tee nerves are very difficult to control, especially in big tournaments or when a few golfers/mates are on the tee waiting patiently for you to stripe one down the middle. You stand behind the ball, try to block out what is going on around you, start your swing, and as you come down … nothing happens, the ball is still teed up and did not even fall off the tee – you just hit the funniest shot in golf – a “FRESHY”. Does this count as a shot? The answer is no. If the ball stays within the teeing area, even if you cause it to move, you are allowed to re-tee without a penalty and give it another go. Only when the ball rolls past the tee markers, is the ball in play and the ball must be played as it lies.”

We can confirm that the above rule is not correct, and the rule and definition is as follow:

Definition: The forward movement of the Club made to strike the ball; this includes a “Freshy”.
So, a “Freshy” is a stroke and must be counted, irrespective if it happened on the tee box or on the course.

Online entries for Club Champs are now closed. Please contact Leanne on 011 215 8600 or clubevents@randpark.co.za to put your name on the waiting list.
