Santa says

New owner at St Francis Links

Craig West was my first PGA apprentice at Fancourt in 1991. A South African by birth, Craig saw an opportunity in Germany and pursued it. Some 28 years later, Craig and his partners own and operate three golf operations. The flagship facility known as West Golf is a nine-hole course that features the 17th at Sawgrass near the Clubhouse. They play 40 000 rounds a year – nine-hole rounds! With over 800 members and an average age of less than 40, the place hums on and off the course.

Outside the 600 square metre Clubhouse is what he calls “West Palm Beach” complete with palms and sand. On Fridays, it’s the place to be.

Craig was born and raised in PE and his dad resides there. He has followed and kept up with me and stayed in tune with the happening here. One thing led to another and he starting seeking opportunities for winter residence.

Recently, after some good searching and assistance from Stirling Olivier, he secured a home on the second fairway here at The Links. Everything was done online, sight unseen. When he arrived, Stirling was there to welcome him and what Craig found, surpassed his high expectations. After playing the course, he started messaging me.

“The course is MAGNIFICENT!!!!!”

“Greens are truly world-class”

Craig later wrote to me…

Was it the view down to the sea, surf and mountains, the slivers of lush green fairways, perfectly manicured and revealing themselves between the Fynbos…?

What is it about the Links at St Francis that made me want to be part of it?

Was it the friendly and almost familiar greeting at the clubhouse for breakfast on only my second visit, the terrace boasting a vista that can more than hold its own with anything I‘ve ever seen worldwide…?

Is it the perfect balance between nature and residential living on a timeless and world-class golf course?

Is it the “gees” that you feel wherever you are on the estate, a feeling of getting back to your proudly South African roots and reliving it all again as if for the first time?

I‘m not sure if I‘ll have the answers anytime soon, and somehow it doesn’t really matter. Because like an old friend you haven’t seen in years, some things just need to be felt to be understood.  And I‘m loving this feeling!

“Hard to leave”

Micah V Eyssen makes it look easy

One of our youngest members recently had a day to remember at Pinnacle Point. Micah, who is only just pushing 8-years-old hit the shot of his young life and made an ace at the 7th hole in blustery conditions. As you can tell, everyone was absolutely thrilled for him.

The first of hopefully many more to come, Micah!

Break 100
Break it down

You’re 140 metres out for your fourth shot on a par 5: Do you pull out your hybrid and go for the green? Or, do you take a comfortable #7 to within 40 metres and pitch it onto the green? If you’re trying to break 100, the latter approach is the one to go with.

Play bitesize golf
Sticking with our par 5 example; instead of constricting yourself to what the course dictates (a drive, wood and iron), you could go with driver, hybrid, two irons and a wedge. You’d be on the green with a bogey putt. A two-putt from there to finish with double bogey still puts you on track to break 100. Remember, 9 bogeys and 9 double bogeys gets you to 99.

Break it down to break 100
The difference between 100 and 99 is only one shot, but carding that double-figure final score for the first time is an exciting and significant moment. Start your journey out of the triple-figures and into the 90s.

Trusted by champions

Cameron Champ is the champ, carding a bogey-free 66 in his final round, securing his third PGA Tour victory at the 2021 3M Open.

But you don’t have to be a champion to transform your game. What could the Z-STAR do for you?
Let’s find out

Thirty-five metres further
What a difference we can make

Let’s create more great experiences for you. Let’s create greater thrills and better walks. Let’s have a look at your tee-shot efficiency: your impact position and consistency, and your launch conditions created.

Although an LPGA Professional is swinging their driver at the same speed as one of our regular golfers, they’re going 35 metres further. They’re creating 2.41 metres for every mph of swing speed, while our regular golfers are only generating 2.09 metres per mph.

That translates into a different experience on the golf course. The next time you play, if you’ve hit a good tee shot, after you’ve hit your 2nd, walk 35 metres further and stop. What would your 2nd have looked like from there? How would you feel about that approach shot?

Go for the experience
For our regular golfers, we’re less interested in your scorecard or handicap, and much more interested in your experience and enjoyment playing the game. Finding more fairways, and going 35 metres further would be a lot of experience and enjoyment. Let’s go for that.
