Good day esteemed affiliated Members,
We trust that you all had a blessed festive season with your loved ones and that 2022 has started on a good foot.
One of our initiatives this year is to improve our communication with all our affiliated members and Clubs alike, and therefore, we will be sending out an official WP Golf newsletter once a month. |
 | | The WP Golf Team is extremely excited about the new year, with captivating new ideas in the pipeline and a new General Manager at the helm. We would like to welcome Robert Scott to the team and we wish him every success in his new position. |
| A brief recap of 2021 and the success which it contained for us as WP Golf. |
It all started in April with our Senior and Super Senior teams winning their IPT, which was held at Stellenbosch Golf Club. This started a snowball effect for the rest of our teams throughout the year.
WP Golf had an unblemished IPT record, making us the first Golf Union ever to accomplish all these victories in a single calendar year, in the following tournaments held: |

| We are extremely proud of all our players who represented WP Golf in the above mentioned Inter-Provincials. Your dedication and determination were evident and carried you through to victory in the end. |
The year started with WP Golf hosting the SA Amateur Qualifier at Bellville Golf Club on Sunday the 16th January 2022. We had 9 participants contending for 5 spots and they were:
• Murray Boast – Milnerton
• Jack Brugman – Strand
• Pieter Coetzee – Stellenbosch
• Daniel Davidson – King David Mowbray
• Thomas Pieter Joubert – Stellenbosch
• Dylan Kayne – Pearl Valley
• Jungwi Lee – Royal Cape
• Janus Roberts – Paarl
• Alee Solomon – Royal Cape
It was a long and hot day out on the course and the tension was palpable. The players kept their heads down and got the job done. A big congratulations to Janus Roberts, Dylan Kayne, Alee Solomon, Jungwi Lee and Murray Boast on qualifying for the SA Amateur due to be held at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club from the 6th – 11th February 2022. We wish you all safe travels and all the best with the rounds ahead. |
| Our Juniors have started the year with a bang, with 5 tournaments under their belts. |
| | Parow Junior Championship |
| The Parow Junior Championship took place on Monday, 3rd January 2022 with a whopping entry of 61 players. Everyone was eager to get back out on the fairways and make their mark for the 2022 season. | | |  | | | | The 2021 winner, Jack Buchanan (Milnerton), triumphed with an up and down round of 74. Birdies were recorded at the 8th (par 4), 11th (par 4), 12th (par 5) and the 15th (par 4) but bogeys at 4 holes, as well as a double drop at the par 3 13th, was the story for the day. |
| | Kuils River Junior Championship |
 | | | The Kuils River Junior Championship followed on Tuesday, 4th January 2022. A hot windless start but it progressively got somewhat windy.
Jan Stals van Rooyen (Royal Cape) was the 2021 champion – he gave a good account of himself on the day – finishing 2nd with a fine 71. Craig Jacobs (Atlantic Beach Links) continued where he left off in 2021 – completing a steady round of 69 to win the 2022 edition. Craig has put together a great portfolio of wins of late – besides winning a number of local events, he also won the Cape Town Junior Open as well as the gold medal at the U19 Junior IPT. |
| | Bellville & KD Mowbray
Junior Championship |
| On Friday, 7th January 2022 at a very warm Bellville Golf Club, Jan Stals van Rooyen walked away with the title after firing a steady 73 (2 bogeys and a birdie at the par 4 5th hole). Jungwi Lee finished 2nd on 76, winning the count-out from JC Engelbrecht (Pearl Valley). | | |  | | | | Then to cap off a great run, both players were involved in a play-off at the King David Mowbray Junior Championship held on Monday, 10th January 2022. Both recorded 71s – with Jungwi Lee winning on the 3rd play-off hole. These are really outstanding performances from two extremely hardworking, dedicated and focused young golfers. |
A sweltering hot day did not discourage the 55 players that participated in the Par 3 Challenge at the beautiful Hazendal Golf Course situated in the Hazendal Wine Estate.
The course offers panoramic winelands views. This 18-hole Par 3 course offers a challenging yet entertaining round of golf with large undulating bent grass greens which are USGA Championship condition. | | | craig_jacobs_u19_winner_hazendal-side2022.jpg) | | | The overall winner on the day was Craig Jacobs (Atlantic Beach Links) who completed the 18-hole course in 2 under-par (4 birdies and 2 drop shots). The most birdies (birdie 2s) during their round was recorded by Adam Johnston with a total of 6 (six).
Jordan Pillay (Durbanville) won the Girls section aged 15 years and older. |
