  The Club

Dear Member,

I trust everyone is enjoying all the short weeks, and getting an extra round of Golf in here and there!

Our accounts team will be sending Invoices out over the next couple of days to members with outstanding fees. Please contact Felicia and Farah should any changes be needed regarding your membership.

We also want to thank all the members who have already made payment.

You would have noted the water fountains on the courses are being tiled, the new taps have been ordered and we are waiting on delivery.

A big thank you goes out to Dewald Cillie and SATIB Insurance Brokers for sponsoring this upgrade.

Happy golfing
Albert Clack

We always encourage communication between our members and the club. If you have any comments or questions please don’t hesitate to either contact our General Manager, Albert Clack at gm@randpark.co.za or our Club Captain, Arthur Heinrich at captainslog@randpark.co.za.

Although we have received very little rain this week (only 4mm) we are still really struggling with extremely waterlogged and wet areas. This is from water moving up and through the water table due to above normal rainfall this season. We have opened drains on the 2nd and 14th holes on Firethorn to try and help the situation.

Well Done & Congratulations to Our
Competition Winners

Winter has definitely arrived. We have started to see the changes in the trees and the late sunrise and sunsets. The trees on Bushwillow, like every year, are starting to shave off their leaves and we have noticed that this does have a huge impact on the pace of play during this time of the year. Members are reminded to keep a close eye on their golf ball in the event that their ball is heading towards an area where there are leaves on the ground. Mark the line with either another tree close to the area or whatever might be close to where the ball might be, to shorten the searching process. Reminder, a player is only allowed 3 minutes to search for a lost ball and ask your playing partners to assist as soon as they can. The new leaf collector is in use and we can see the difference it is making already.

Bushwillow is still very wet, we will continue with the current procedure that only players with a valid medical reason will be allowed to make use of the golf cart on Bushwillow. Some of the worst affected holes are the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 17th holes. Firethorn is drying a lot quicker, but we still have some bad areas that must please be avoided, even if you are walking the course. The holes that are still very wet on Firethorn are the 2nd hole across the bridge, the 7th middle of the fairway towards the river, and the 14th fairway. Roger and his team will be working on the drainage of these bad areas as soon as the areas have dried up a little bit more. All these areas must be treated as GUR.

Pre-check in

As all our members are aware we are still doing the pre-check-in before the start of each round. We would like to remind our members to ensure you have enough funds on our competition days for the competition fee. The days and cost are as follow:

Senior Competition Tuesday AM field R25
Wednesday Ladies Competition Wednesday AM field R35
Wednesday Competition Wednesday PM field R60
Saturday Competition AM & PM Fields R35
Sunday Competition Sunday AM fields  R35

Bax and Greg will mark on each slip if a player does not have enough credit on his/her account and the player must proceed to the check-in desk to pay the outstanding balance.

Winter tee-off times

We are currently making use of our winter tee sheet, this means that we are losing times in the morning and the later tee-off times in the afternoon.

Currently, our fields will be limited as follows:

AM Fields: Maximum of 208 players over both courses starting from 06h38 until 08h30
PM Field: Maximum of 176 players over both courses starting from 11h22 until 12h50

Saturday AM bookings will be closely monitored to ensure all procedures are followed accordingly.

Competition Schedule

It’s almost the end of yet another month and this year is flying past us so quickly. Though there have been a few challenges along the way, we are still here standing strong.

Certain activities and responsibilities are taking preference over others, which is expected and understandable. We here at Powerblast Training want to urge you not to skip over the importance of your health and well-being. When the going gets tough one of the first things everyone does, is to put your health and well-being to one side, be it your physical health or even your mental health. The importance of your health often gets overlooked which is a huge detriment to you. Health is so important and if the last two years are anything to go by, they should not be put to the side when it gets a bit hectic and chaotic.

Do yourself a favour and make your health and well-being a top priority to you. Trust us you will not regret it. It will greatly help you in every other facet of your life. We can promise you that. If you need any assistance with your physical and/or mental health and well-being, come on through to the Health and Wellness Centre right here at your very own club. We are more than happy to assist. If you do not need any assistance, come through anyway. Pop up and have a chat to us. We are all in this together.

Getting to know Club Captain Arthur Heinrich
(Written by Randpark member Grant Winter)

Self-confessed golf addict Arthur Heinrich, who has been our Club Captain for the past seven months or so, started off his sporting life as a tennis player. That was his passion growing up in Cape Town. “I played tennis seven days a week for 10 years and made it into the Western Province second league, playing for Bergvliet. But I gave the game up when I went to university so I could have more time to study. This was the early 1980s and if you failed your first year you had to go to the Army. So, I studied hard and made sure I passed thereby avoiding the Army until I had completed my degree.”

Golf entered his life when he was 16 in Standard 9. His mother’s uncle introduced him to the game. “And from the moment I picked up a club, I became completely and utterly obsessed, joining Parow Golf Club late in 1981.” In between studies, Arthur worked hard at his golf – and he showed a flair for the game. “I set myself three goals: to play in the Stefan League, to one day break 70, and to play off scratch. When I first got down to a single figure handicap, I started to play league in Western Province’s Challenge League, which is the league just below the premier Stefan League. I never did get to play Stefan League though. Twice I was a team reserve but everybody turned up, so I didn’t get to tee it up!” … [Read more]
